ACTIVITIES
Wanaka is a year-round playground and a popular destination both for New Zealand families and international visitors.
It’s a popular base for so many activities, here’s a few of our favourites:
Food and Wine
Central Otago is known for it’s great food and wine, and it’s one of the reasons we love coming here. There are so many great wineries within 30-60 minutes’ drive and numerous award-winning restaurants. Its’ foodies heaven!

Weddings
Yes, Wanaka is a popular place for weddings and it’s easy to understand why. There are so many stunning versus. Te Ariku Nui is a popular place for bridal parties, and an ideal escape once the formalities are complete!
Skiing
Skiing in Wanaka is popular given the proximity and quality of our two local ski resorts. Both Cardrona and Treble Cone are around 45 minutes drive the base areas, and represent quiet different experiences. Cardrona for families, wide open groomers. Treble Cone if you’re a bit more adventurous, or simply want to soak up the amazing views.

Mountain Biking
Mountain biking has grown hugely in Wanaka recently, primarily because of all the new tracks. Te Arikui Nui is located perfectly that want to ride a loop on the Clutha River track, and it’s also a relatively short ride into town for the many tracks.
Walking and Hiking
This is where it all began for Wanaka, a mecca for accessing the great outdoors and you have so much chose.
Good short walks in Wanaka include The Outlet track, Mount Iron, The Blue Pools, or Diamond Lake. Popular half day walks include the very popular Roys Peak, or for something different, Rob Roy Glacier Track for stunning views of the glacier. For longer adventures there are some many choices, but a popular one being an overnight trip to the Mt Aspiring Hut.
